Gustavsson’s Heart Woes Behind Him, For Good

Leafs Nation collectively held their breaths when it was learned that our rookie goaltender, Jonas Gustavsson, would need a second procedure done to fix a heart problem.

To be as basic as I can, Gustavsson needed surgery done to kill off a problem that was causing an elevated heart rate. Essentially, there were cells which were causing his heart to pump too many times - cells that needed to be burned away in a medical procedure.

However, in the first procedure, only so many of these evil ‘cells’ can be burned away in one go. Otherwise, it can become a dangerous maneuver. That’s why a second go, as doctors reported last week, was inevitable.

This shouldn’t be a recurring problem, and Gustavsson’s life is not at risk.

He’ll be back in business soon and can put this bumpy start to his career behind him.
