Friday Thoughts

  • Woah. Woah. If you haven’t already guessed, I’m thinking about the goal that Tyler Bozak scored last night. Amidst all the mediocrity on the Leafs, that had to be one of the best goals scored all season. A total individual effort and putting it top shelf from point blank range. Good way to start a career.
  • Once again, Burke makes his moral stance clear: no asking players to waive no trade clauses. Though this might be hard to swallow for some, he made it abundantly clear why he’s doing it: showing respect for players contracts is a way to lure new free agents. Not a bad plan if you ask me; its not exactly like hordes of free agents look to come here anyways. If you don’t think the way McCabe was treated by Fletcher has had reverberations around the league, think again. Burke likely realized that and has changed the message the franchise was sending since then.
  • I’m not worried about giving the Bruins Taylor Hall. We simply aren’t as bad as the Hurricanes and Oilers. Not to say we’re that much better, but we aren’t worse. We might even be better than the Blue Jackets. Maybe. But at the end of the day, what’s to point in regretting it if it does indeed yield a top three pick? It’s over. It’s really in the past now. Not the future. We can’t undo it. So get over it and worry about how this team can be improved moving forward.
  • Think Phil Kessel is struggling under expectations? Well, can you imagine if Burke had managed to land John Tavares at the draft? The guy has gone 13 games with only two points. Toronto would not be a good environment for him right now.
